Summer of Fried Capacitors
In the sweltering months of July and August, capacitors often swell under the heat! This common problem is a quick fix for someone who knows what to look for, and Privette Heating and Air can help you spot a busted capacitor.
WARNING SIGNS
To start with, the top of some capacitors swell up when they go bad. If you see a capacitor with a swollen top, it’s most likely in need of a replacement. Another sign that the capacitor on your system is bad, would be an evaporator motor that refuses to start or one that is slow to start. Note that other factors may cause the motor not to run.
SAFETY
Privette Heating and Air does not recommend that you inspect a capacitor yourself because they can contain residual electrical charges, even if the power is turned off. This charge can be dangerous if absorbed. The best option is to call a service technician if you are experiencing problems that you think could be attributed to a bad capacitor.
IN SUMMARY
Bad capacitors are one of the most common problems that occur in the HVAC business during the summer. Don’t stay hot over such a simple fix, call Privette Heating and Air today!
